According to sources, on Wednesday, two senior grade officers were dismissed on charges of negligence. Railway Minister Ashwin Vaishnav has made it clear that if you want to stay in the railways, you have to work, otherwise you will be thrown out. Railways also sacked 2 corrupt officers on last Wednesday (23rd November). Of the two officers who were sacked, one was caught by the CBI while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in Hyderabad, while the other was caught with Rs 3 lakh in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.

139 employees were dismissed from July 2021

Since July 2021, 139 railway officials have been forced to take Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), while 38 have been dismissed from service. Those who were forced to take VRS or were sacked included officers from electrical and signalling, medical and civil services. Employees of stores, traffic and mechanical departments have also been hit.

Explain that the employee taking VRS is given a salary equal to two months for each year of remaining service. However, compulsorily retired employees do not get this benefit. Explain that according to Rule 56 (J) of the Railway Personnel and Training Service Rules, a government servant can be retired or dismissed after giving notice of at least 3 months or payment for an equal period.
